Hollie's working trials test.
« on: June 11, 2017, 07:35:16 PM »
Just over 2 months ago Hollie came out of retirement when I found out there was to be a special stake in the Welsh Kennel Club Working Trials. In that stake there was a tracking element so not only did I have to try & bring us both back up to scratch on exercises we knew we had to learn something new.  6 weeks ago not only had Hollie never tracked, I'd never tracked either.  Now 6 weeks is nowhere near enough to get up to standard but we worked hard.  Fitz was kind enough to give me training sessions every Friday night & in between classes on Sundays, to learn the tracking.

So today was the day!  Now Hollie's will never be able to progress in working trials due to her spinal issues but we can progress in tracking & take the tests.  So the big thing of the day for me was that I wanted her to do well with that.  Tracking is hard, you have to rely on the dog & there is nothing you can do to help them.  So off we went on the track, she was all over to start with but I remembered the wise words Fitz had drummed into me, don't move until it's clear she has the track & she got it.  Once she had it there was no stopping her she was amazing, 3 long legs of a track later & we hadn't gone off course & had all 3 articles.  I was so happy & emotional I just sat down in the field & hugged her, I was almost crying.  The judge complimented me on my handling & said I was excellent which meant so much.  So that over we then went on to the search, which Hollie is normal amazing at - today however not.  Dogs!  She only managed to find one article, the judge said I did nothing wrong she was just not with it. There were 5 entries in our stake & we came 3rd with a total of 163/200.  The 4th place dog had 130 so we were well in 3rd place.  We both enjoyed the day & im so happy with Hollie.  Well done Hollie you are wonderful, not bad for an 8 year old wonky Springer.

 :wav: :wav:  Woop!  Woop!

This is absolutely brilliant.  She may be wonky but she's very beautiful and she works really hard.

Well done to both of you.  I know this will have taken an awful lot of hard work and dedication.
Those scores are just brilliant.  I'm loving the 10/10s.   ;D

I'm sure you were both exhausted by the evening, but I hope that you both had the energy for a little treat.
